Disks Missing at Health Net and Corps of Engineers

Today’s announcement of Accellion Encryption for Secure File Transfer seems particularly timely given the recent data breaches at Health Net Insurance and the Corps of Engineers. Both organizations lost disks containing personal records and in both cases the disks were not encrypted. The Health Net data breach potentially puts at risk more than 1.5 million medical records. The Corps of Engineers data breach could affect as many as 60,000 soldiers and Army civilians.

Accellion Encryption announced today includes both disk and file transfer encryption capabilities to help organizations maintain compliance by ensuring confidential files remain secure during transfer or in the event of a loss, theft or security breach. Utilizing AES 128-bit encryption, Accellion Encryption is available for the Accellion Managed Cloud Service as well as the range of virtual, physical and cloud appliances that Accellion offers.

Unfortunately for Health Net and the Corps of Engineers files cannot be encrypted after the fact.
