BYOD is, I think, both a response to and an instigator of many of our thoughts in life these days. It used to be that any time you had a business opportunity, whether scheduled or spontaneous, you had to hope that you had a copy of everything you might need in a clunky briefcase that took up half of the coffee table you were meeting over. Now, however, the ability to tell someone "Oh, you would like this? Let me just get that for you" through a tablet makes the ability to adapt and react during any business meeting, intended or chance, something that is never stressed by concern about having the right documents with you.

This ties into your point about telecommuting and mobile working, but I think it has a different emphasis. Certainly it's nice to be able to work from where-ever. Just importantly or perhaps even more importantly is that ability for instantaneous response anywhere, anytime that BYOD is making standard in business.
