Paula,

Great list. Allow me to embellish it.

At the outset I'm impressed by your restraint. ;-) I would have leveraged the recent security breach at DropBox as compelling evidence that free cloud services (such as DropBox) have no business managing business documents.

I'm also surprised that the word "chaos" didn't make it into this article. Free and open cloud sharing systems are ideal for creating an incubator of document chaos that creates drag and heat loss for companies seeking operational efficiency.

Lastly, the lack of document lifecycle management in these free systems establishes an equal and indefinite lifespan for every digital artifact, forcing every participant to spend endless time managing and policing a document collection. This is yet another problem for companies and teams trying to use these environments for collaboration.

My #1 would have been "collaboration with precision"; without it competitors will run circles around your teams.

Just sayin' ...

@Liam while I agree with you that Facebook and similar services are moving into the business realm, I don't believe that one should have unfettered access to them while at work, unless there is a proven need.

1. FB wastes time.
2. It introduces other avenues for unauthorised and unaudited information exchange.

I respectfully disagree with banning access to Facebook at work.

While Facebook is a privacy & security nightmare at best, banning employees' access to it won't solve a company's IT security concerns. In fact, Facebook is as much a B2B play as it is C2C or B2C. Turning it off completely reduces your work force's ability to connect and build relationships with current and/or potential customers. Like it or not, the world is moving in this direction so outright blockage isn't the answer.

Having said that, I'll never use Facebook email. It's not safe.
